Year 9 – Understanding Computers

This is a theoretical unit designed to help students understand the different elements of a computer system.  With a focus on how computer systems use input, processing and output devices, students will develop knowledge of how the CPU controls a computer system.  Students will investigate the different types of memory used in computers and the importance of RAM and ROM.  They will discover how computers communicate in binary and learn how to convert between binary and denary.  Students will look at networking devices and how they communicate.
