St. Joseph’s PE department prides itself on hard work and enthusiasm. Our sporting successes come from students who show dedication and determination and a willingness to overcome challenges.
Our students experience a range of sporting activities during their time here, ensuring they follow a broad and balanced curriculum. In Key Stage 3 and 4 students will follow a carousel of activities, with Key stage 3 receiving 4 lessons per fortnight and Key Stage 4 2 lessons per fortnight.
Our extra-curricular programme sees us provide opportunities for students to further their learning and advance their skill level. This often progresses towards school representation in Area, County and even National level competition. Our students can chose to further develop their love of Physical Education into examination study.
We offer courses in GCSE Physical Education, BTEC Level 3 Sport, and A level Physical Education, allowing students to combine sporting performance with theory to gain a qualification and set them on the road to a career in Sport and Leisure. Our students regular attain great sporting success in a range of sports including swimming, football, athletics and trampolining and continue to receive recognition for their achievements.
In addition, we encourage students getting involved in in sport in roles other than as a performer and offer Sports leaders and Dance leaders programmes in Year 10 and sixth form, and offer provision of pathways into coaching. We have created several links with local clubs and pride ourselves on collaborative work in the community. We currently have links with Newcastle Eagles, Jarrow & Hebburn AC, and Jarrovians.
