Art and Photography Exhibition

10th May 2018

We are delighted to announce that St Joseph’s Art department will be curating an exhibition of contemporary and skilful students art work. The annual GCSE and A level Art and Photography exhibition includes a vast range of experimental techniques in a range of materials. Oil painting, mixed media sculpture, ceramics, drawing, printing, film and digital photography are all represented. The exhibition highlights the dedication, skills and creativity of St Joseph’s art students.

Mrs Crombie the head of department has praised the commitment and professionalism of both the pupils and the Art & Photography staff;

“The standard of work this year is superb, with a number of GCSE and A Level students exceeding our expectations. In some ways this should not come as a surprise as they have worked extremely hard, and have thrived in the art department’s supportive environment.”

A level photography student Monica Swailes specialises in creative portraiture and is about to embark on a photography course at Newcastle college. The 17 year-old explained the inspiration for her photography;

“St Josephs has given me confidence in my work, allowing me to develop as a photographer and expanding my skill set. My teachers have given me lots of support and I have loved the two year course. In recent works I have questioned the use of social media in a photographic context, using my work to comment on social change and decline. I am also looking into photographing the effects of drugs on someone, I wouldn’t have been able to become so imaginative without my teachers help.”

The exhibition will be open for one night on Wednesday 16th May from 4 – 6pm. All students and parents are welcome to attend. We look forward to celebrating our students success with you at this event.
